Horse Program Descriptions:

Level 1: Saddle Sampler (English & Western) This half day equestrian exploration is available in AM or PM session. Saddle Sampler is open to Kindergarten and up for both girls and boys. Riders will be divided into smaller groups within their session based on age and ability. Take part in riding lessons and learn to take care of your horse. Campers will get to try Western and/or English styles. No previous experience required.

Level 2: Silver Spurs (Western) or Pony Tails (English) During daily riding lessons, you will learn to ride in an arena without a lead line, demonstrate the basic balanced position at the halt and walk, and demonstrate control at the walk and the trot according to your riding style.
* Special offer: Nine day riding program Silver Spurs/Pony Tails (must have completed Saddle Sampler). This nine day riding program is discounted to $488 and will be focused on skill building. Girls may choose to sign up for the week and not select the nine day program.

Level 3: Take the Reins (Western) Improve your riding skills during daily lessons and learn to groom, saddle, and care for horses. Learn how to pick up stirrups without looking, walk your horse over ground poles and practice steering while jogging figure eights and serpentines!

Level 3: The Mane Event (English) Improve your riding skills during daily lessons and learn to groom, saddle and care for horses. Learn the rising trot and half seat jumping position. Practice your trot over ground poles, changing diagonals and more!

Level 4: Saddle Up (Western) Each day refining your riding style and participating in lessons on theory and horsemanship. Perfect your upward downward transition at the walk and the trot, take your horse through a fan of poles, practice your lope, and take your horse over the obstacles.

Level 4: Mount Up (English) Each day refining your riding style and participating in lessons on theory and horsemanship. Learn how to jump a cross rail at the trot, practice your canter, and go on a trail ride to jump a fence in the open.

Level 5: Wild West Adventure (Western) Focus on Western Pleasure, reining and trail work. Sharpen your skills in gymkhana and practice timed events like barrel racing, pole bending, keyhole and a flag race! Develop your reining techniques from circles to flying change.

Level 5: Tally Ho! (English) Explore the world of hunter seat competitions and take both undersaddle and over fences classes, improve your equitation, and create a drill routine to perform. In addition to flatwork, take lessons on dressage, jumping, cross country and more!

Equestrian Adventure

Our redesigned horse programs feature both Western and English saddle style with progressive learning based on the riding skills and horsemanship of each individual girl. Amity Acres Day Camp offers only one horse program from 10:00 to 2:00 pm (off site). Amity Acres Day Camp riders are bused to and from Chariot Riders, Manchester
 
We encourage you to:

• Join our Horse Club  (check out our member discount – 15% off any unit).
• Participate in the 3rd Annual Horse Show on August 26.

The Horse Show is open to all riders regardless of their level of achievement or mastery during horse camp or girls who have taken riding lessons throughout the year.

Reminders:
Trail Rides will be available to boys and girls July 11th, 25th and August 15th. Games with Horses is available for girls only on July 11th, 25th and August 15th.

Our riding programs are progressive lessons based on learning and mastering skills. Horsemanship takes time, patience and practice. Some children will master skills faster than others. Please consider this when registering. Your child may have finished a specific riding program yet she needs more practice to master the skills associated with that program. Once your rider has completed a week, you will receive a progress report showing what skills were covered and what skills were mastered. Staff will make appropriate suggestions for the next riding program.

Every rider is evaluated on the first day of the first program. An initial report is sent home via email on Monday. Friday the week’s progress report is sent. Every week riders will learn and practice the skills they need to master for a great riding experience.

Saddle Sampler will be offered every week.

 Le Trec

Discover the world of Trec, one of the fastest growing equestrian sports that every horse and rider can enjoy. The emphasis is on having fun with your horse! The sport is made up of three phases: orienteering, control of gaits, and a cross country obstacle course. Participate in daily lessons that will teach you how to overcome various challenges in the natural environment. This program takes place at Chariot Riders, Manchester. Round-trip bus transportation is provided.

Game Night with the Horses

Game Night with the Horses is offered from 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm in conjunction with campfires to registered campers. Girls may extend their day to play games with the horses, reinforcing skills learned used in the horse program. The games, dinner (6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.) and the campfire are included. Parents/Guardians are responsible for transportation home.

Horse Club

Girls who register for horse camp during the summer are invited to join our Horse Club.

We are now offering for the first time ever, a chance for discounted prices on our horse units at day camp for active members of one of the Girl Scouts of the Jersey Shore's Horse Clubs.

3rd Annual Horse Show

All girls who ride at one of ours facilities or another riding center/bar are invited to participate in our 3rd Annual Horse Show on Sunday, August 26, 2012 regardless of their level of achievement during horse camp (date TBA).

Important Notices

• If your child is late for camp and arrives after the horse unit has left for the barn your child will wait until all late comers are on site and then be taken to the horse camp; riders will have to wait until the current rotation of stations is completed before joing the group. This may cause your rider to miss their first station which could be their riding station.
• A bus will leave Amity Acres Day Camp by 9:30 a.m. Upon arrival at Chariot Riders, Manchester, girls will begin their horse program. When their horse program activities are complete, if time permits before the bus departs to return to camp, there will be arts and crafts, games and other activities on-site. Upon returning to Amity Acres Day Camp girls will be permitted to swim (if time and weather conditions permit).
• If your child is late for camp and arrives after the bus has left for Chariot Riders Manchester your child will not be able to join the horse program for that day unless you drive them directly to Chariot Riders Manchester.
• Horse activities are subject to weather conditions and may be adjusted accordingly. No reimbursement will be given for program adjustments.
